This fall, They Live is getting a brand new collector’s edition Blu-ray and DVD. The release comes courtesy of Scream Factory, who have unveiled the cover art and a peek at the bonus material included on the disc.

They may have selected the perfect picture for the cover with the caricature of Piper and Keith David—in that sweet grey crew neck—cartoonish guns-a-blazin’. You look at this image and it immediately conjures up the tone, feel, and spirit of the film. There’s everything you need to know, right in one place: guns, sleeveless shirts, sunglasses, and aliens who look like their heads fell in the cheese dip back in 1957. I can’t wait.

Here’s the official details concerning what will be on the Blu-ray and DVD, at least for now. It sounds like there will be even more to come as we get closer to the November 6th street date.

Horror master John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) directs this heart-pounding thriller in which aliens are systematically gaining control of the Earth by masquerading as humans and lulling the public into submission. Humanity’s last chance lies with a lone drifter who stumbles upon a harrowing discovery — a unique pair of sunglasses that reveals the terrifying and deadly truth.

Out of a long, distinguished, somewhat hit-and-miss career (there have been few misfires to be sure), They Live might just be my favorite John Carpenter movie (it’s neck and neck with Big Trouble in Little China). The campy sci-fi political satire has so many memorable moments and brilliant quotes that you don’t even know where to begin listing them. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s Nada spouting, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum,” is a good starting point, and may be all you need to say.
