CasanovaCasanova Vol. 4: Acedia
Not technically a new series but still noteworthy, Acedia is the latest installment of writer Matt Fraction and artists Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon’s genre-bending Casanova series. It centers on a thief named Casanova Quinn, who is “blackmailed into being a pawn and double agent in a global game of super-espionage.” Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay) will be penning backup stories with Bá providing art. When you’ve got a Pulitzer Prize winner as your backup, you’re in pretty damn good shape.

Fraction insists that the “Vol. 4” thing intimidate you if you haven’t read the previous stories. The protagonist will be in the same boat as you:

Casanova escaped the complicated and stressful life of a dimension-hopping, identity-shifting, sexually voracious killing machine and we last saw him wandering out of the wreckage of a UFO that landed in the Hollywood Hills.

It’s our Los Angeles. It’s our Earth. And he remembers absolutely nothing of his past.

They had us at “dimension-hopping, identity-shifting, sexually voracious killing machine.” It’s like the Terminator, except he’ll sleep with you before he kills you!

Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson says:

Casanova is one of my all-time favorite comics, and I think I’ve been pretty open about how gutted I was when Matt and the twins chose to take it elsewhere a few years back, so it should really go without saying that I am incredibly thrilled to have this book back at Image. Anyone who is as big a fan of Casanova as I am is going to be amazed by everything the guys have planned this time around.
