Comic(s) Relief: Battlestar Galactica Gets A Steampunk Makeover This Summer

With Ron Moore’s acclaimed Syfy series long since wrapped up and the dude who wrote Transcendence at work on a big-screen “reimagining,” Battlestar Galactica fans looking for a fix of their favorite franchise are simply stuck with reruns for the time being. Or you could hit your local comics shop and dig into the ongoing adventures of the Colonial Fleet, whether you prefer the Glen Larson original or the Moore revamp. Dynamite Entertainment holds the comic license for BSG and they’ve got multiple series stretching across both incarnations of the series. Now they’re adding a new addition — and a weird one at that. Welcome to Battlestar Galactica: 1880.
Taking that whole “All of this has happened before” thing to the next level, Battlestar Galactica: 1880 will give the property a Steampunk makeover, with “Professor Baltar” creating clockwork Cylons to pit against the Colonial Empire. Adama is now an archduke, there are Sky Pirates, and Captain Starbuck now has a “humanoid / Daggit copilot Muffit.” Well, at least the comics version won’t require anyone to duct tape a chimpanzee inside a bunch of spare carpet. (Oh, and Starbuck is back to being a dude in this one. Written by Tony Lee, Battlestar Galactica: 1880 is set to hit stores this August.
