New Cloud Atlas Posters Drive Home The Everything-Is-Connected Theme
Cloud Atlas, the new film from the Wachowski siblings (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), premiered recently at the Toronto International Film Festival. The result has been a back-and-forth firefight between critics who either loathed or adored the adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel. Love it or hate it, Cloud Atlas has one hell of an ambitious streak, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most divisive movies in some time.
The rest of the non-festival-attending public will get to see Cloud Atlas on October 26th, but before that we have a new banner and poster to gawk at.
Cloud Atlas has such an insanely high-profile international cast that it’s surprising they were able to fit all the names across the top of a single poster. The call sheet features names like Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Zhou Xun, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant. That’s a lot of star power for a single motion picture.
The plot of the film unfolds around the globe and over numerous generations, from the remote past into the distant future, and aims to show how events echo throughout time. These posters are designed to drive home the everything-is-connected motif. Each one-sheet combines images from all of the historical epochs, running the gamut from ancient history where people live in tribal settings to sparkly futures infested with sparkling skyscrapers. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, they’re thematically tied to the plot of Cloud Atlas.
