It’s Bender Vs. Homer In This First Look At The Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Episode

The Simpsons has had a fine resurgence in the pop culture landscape as of late, bringing in surprisingly big ratings for FXX’s 12-day-long marathon. But the time for reliving old episodes is past — except, of course, on FXX, where the series will take up a lot of the young network’s lineup space — and we’re looking forward to the upcoming Season 26 in all of its potential glory. But the most exciting part of that season lies in the long-awaited crossover episode between The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening’s more GFR-friendly series that sadly came to an end last summer.
No matter, because we now have our first look at the episode, and it’s Bender getting ready to unleash a horde of weapons on Homer. In other words, it’s the most perfectly plausible and understandable image they possibly could have shown. I can’t imagine Homer handling this situation with even an iota of tact. But where are they, with all that scientific equipment and books laying around? Professor Frink’s lab?
The episode, titled “Simpsorama,” involves Bart blowing his nose into a sandwich and then putting it into a time machine, where it gets mixed up with Milhouse’s rabbit’s foot and a batch of radioactive ooze. This inevitably leads to a world of chaos and destruction, and Bender must travel back in time to kill Bart and stop the mayhem. Obviously he’s fine with lifting the limitations on how many people he can kill, given Homer’s peril. It’s unclear where the rest of the Planet Express crew will appear, but you’ll definitely be hearing the voices of Billy West, Katey Segal, John DiMaggio, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille, and Maurice LaMarche.
The episode is taglined in the opening credits as “A show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes,” which is a funny jab but also kind of depressing. Longtime Simpsons writer and executive producer Al Jean explains the impetus behind the episode below.
They [Futurama] were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters. We’re always looking for things that are more compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like, they just erased Homer’s hair.
