The Battlestar Galactica series has been struggling to find a successful spin-off since its prequel series Caprica was cancelled in 2010. Caprica only lasted one season on SyFy, and it looked like it might be the last time we would visit the Battlestar Galactica universe for a while. But now the spin-off web series Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will finally see its way onto the basic cable network this February.

SyFy has announced that it will air Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome as a two-hour TV event on Sunday February 10th. The TV event will feature new material not featured in the online version. The series debuted on the Machinima Prime YouTube channel in November, and averaged about eight million views per episode. The two-hour series was split into ten 12-minute episodes and was released two at a time every week for five weeks.

The story is set during the First Cylon War and follows a young William “Husker” Adama (Luke Pasqualino) as he struggles to fit into his new role as a rookie fighter pilot. Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome was written and produced as a TV movie, but also as a back-door pilot for consideration as a new TV series on SyFy. The pilot was rejected and re-tooled as a series of short episodes for the Internet.

The TV movie was written by David Eick, Michael Taylor, Bradley Thompson, and David Weddle, all of whom worked on the original Battlestar Galactica reboot from 2005 to 2009. Jonas Pate, who worked on Caprica, directed Blood & Chrome.

The uncut, uncensored, and uninterrupted version of Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be released the following week, February 19th, on Blu-ray/DVD.
