Say what you will about casting an actor like Ashton Kutcher—one with almost universally panned acting skills—as a well-known cultural icon like Apple founder Steve Jobs, but he certainly looks the part. Check out this new image of the Two and a Half Men star from the upcoming biopic jOBS

…and compare it to the real-life picture of Jobs below. There’s a definite resemblance, to be sure, even down to the unbuttoned chest. Whether or not Kutcher has the chops to pull off the role remains to be seen, but what the hell, why not give the dimwit a chance?

Directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), jOBS (one of two movies about Jobs in the works) is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The film follows Jobs throughout a 30-year chunk of his life, as witnessed by his friends and colleagues. From his younger, hippie days, the movie tracks his successes and failures, including when he was unceremoniously removed, and his ultimate destination as a full-blown pop culture symbol in his own right.

jOBS stars Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder; Ahna O’Reilly as Chris-Ann Brennan, Jobs’ girlfriend; Dermot Mulroney as former Apple CEO Mike Markkula; Mathew Modine as John Sculley, another Apple CEO; and Lukas Haas as Daniel Kottke, an Apple employee.

My feelings towards jOBS are exactly the same as towards The Social Network. I’m sure it’ll be a fine motion picture, worthy of all manner of praise and adulation, but I have absolutely no desire or need to ever actually see it.
