birdsDo you guys hear that chanting for “more Star WarsStar Wars and Angry Bird mash-ups” slowly growing more and more deafening? No? That’s because no one is yelling that. Perhaps a couple dozen people are talking about it in a calm and orderly fashion, but I don’t get what the fervor for more cross-licensing is about. Wait, now I’m hearing the overwhelming sound of cash registers going ching.

Beyond the Angry Birds Star Wars game itself, a board game was released. And now the world gets to look forward to the release of the classic Hasbro Star Wars action figures reimagined for the world of Angry Birds. Which essentially means they are no longer “action figures,” and are more of the disembodied non-action head variety. Except for R2-D2 of course.

The 12 figures include, R2, C-3PO, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, a Stormtrooper, Sand People, a Jawa and the Imperial Navy Commander. They will get their exclusive release at this year’s 44th annual San Diego Comic Con, which runs from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21. Each character fits into “in a unique vintage-style blister card featuring Angry Birds homage to the classic Kenner artwork! The individual blister cards are all packaged together in a collectible package!” It does look pretty cool, as you can see below.

The entire set will sell for the retail price of $24.99. And they’ll be joined by other more adult toys for SDCC, found here. Maybe next they’ll inject Wookie DNA into a bird before pissing it off.
