AMCAMC is going science fiction! The well-respected network has announced a new SF series, Line of Sight, which is set to go into production later this year for (hopefully) a fall premiere date.

While AMC’s The Walking Dead has elements of science fiction, it is not as sci-fi heavy as Line of Sight is believed to be. Writer Blake Masters (Rubicon, Brotherhood) created the series, and will also serve as its executive producer. According to ComingSoon, Line of Sight will follow the story of Lewis Bernt, a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator who survives a mysterious plane crash. His investigation brings him on a quest to discover the accident’s cause. Bernt becomes fixated on the unfathomable force that brought down the airplane, and how he survived as it slowly unravels his life and the world around him. Lewis’ dark obsession with the plane crash soon turns into paranoia.

Joel Stillerman, AMC’s EVP of original programming, production, and digital content, said of Line of Sight and Masters:

Blake Masters has created a world and set of characters that defies the traditional boundaries of drama and sci-fi. It’s got great elements of both genres while also having that unique blend of a conspiracy thriller. It is genuinely unexpected and unconventional.

A few weeks ago, AMC gave director Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) and writer Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim) the greenlight to develop a new science fiction TV series called Ballistic City. It is described as “Battlestar Galactica meets Blade Runner and Chinatown,” as it follows an ex-cop who turns to a life of organized crime in a city that’s actually inside a giant spaceship, heading to an unknown planet.

It’s good to see other basic cable networks like AMC adding some high-concept science fiction material to their roster. We’ll definitely keep you posted about these two as they develop.
