I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m breathlessly awaiting the release of Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines game, but I will say I wish somebody would bring me some lunch camped out here in front of GameStop. The in-canon game is set in the aftermath of Alien 3, and directly follows up on the events of the second movie, with a new squad of Colonial Marines sent to investigate what happened aboard the Sulaco and on the surface of LV-426. The game doesn’t release until next month, but now they’ve posted a new trailer that highlights the gameplay. Check it out:

Previous trailers have played up the creepy, intense atmosphere the movies excelled at, and which the game hopes to create as well, but this one is more about the action. We get to see plenty of running and gunning, as well as some other gameplay mechanics already revealed, such as having to seal or cut open doors to cut off xenomorph angles of attack, as well as the up-close hand-to-hand encounters which are rumored to involve some form of quick time event.

There are two surprises worth highlighting as well. First, the 1:45 mark finally confirms what everyone suspected: you’ll get to climb into a power loader and lay some smackdown on the alien critters, Ripley style. Second, you get a brief glimpse of what appears to be Lance Henricksen’s familiar face around the one-minute mark. We know there are multiple “Bishop model” androids, so it’ll be interesting to see if this is one we’ve dealt with before or a brand-new one.

Aliens: Colonial Marines releases for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 12th…just in time for Valentine’s Day! The WiiU is also supposed to get a release at some point in 2013.
