Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Uses This TV Spot To Tease Another Franchise
Inhumans is well known among comic book fans, but as far as more mainstream audiences go, it’s not the biggest title out there. Almost everyone already had at least a passing familiarity with the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, and the Hulk, even before the movies, but Inhumans falls into a similar category as Guardians of the Galaxy. While it’s an important part of the world, it wasn’t one casual fans were too acquainted with. Now that there is an Inhumans movie on the way, Marvel is preparing to do some work to familiarize people with the title, and that begins in this new promo for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
Just so you know, if you’re not caught up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., there are some potential spoilers.
Agents comes back next week after Agent Carter wraps up its first (?) season this week, and if you’ve been watching, the last episode before the hiatus was a big one. After being exposed to the Terrigen Mists, Skye’s (Chloe Bennet) true identity was revealed to be Daisy Johnson, better known as Quake, who first popped up in Brian Michael Bendis’ Secret War #2.
In the comics Quake isn’t an inhuman, but she is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe they gave her a different origin and have confirmed that she is, in fact, an Inhuman. And as far as I know, this is the first time that the word “inhuman” has been used, at least in this context, and it looks like they’re going to start weaving pieces of this into the larger fabric of the MCU.
Inhumans was originally slated to hit movie theaters in 2019, but with Spider-Man finally joining the MCU, that is one of the films that saw it’s release date pushed back. Last we heard, it will now open July 12, 2019. Given the schedule, this seems really early to introduce them, but then again, there are plenty of movies between now and then where these characters can figure into the storyline, and by the time the movie actually opens, audiences should be more than familiar with them.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns next week on Tuesday, March 3.
