There is no other holiday that is as near and dear to the hearts of science fiction fanatics as Halloween. When else do you have a chance to dress up in an elaborate costume patterned after your favorite heroes or creatures or villains?

This predilection carries over into holiday decorations as well, and there are some people who are way, way better at carving pumpkins than most of us will ever be, or than we actually care to be. Alex Wer, who also goes by the appropriate moniker The Pumpkin Geek, is putting his particular talents to good use, carving a collection of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine jack-o-lanterns.

There’s one of no-nonsense Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) to start off the Halloween festivities.

We also have a Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell)…

…Kiera Nerys (Nana Visitor)…

…Odo (Rene Auberjonois)…

…and what would a collection of Deep Space Nine pumpkins be without a little visit from your buddy Quark (Armin Shimerman)?

Okay, there is one glaring omission, however. Though he is generally regarded as a member of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Worf (Michael Dorn) appeared in more than 100 episodes of Deep Space Nine, and is conspicuously absent in this collection.

Check out Wer’s webpage, www.thepumpkingeek.com, to see his galleries of more Trek, Star Wars, horror, sci-fi, and all manner of other geekery rendered in pumpkin form. He’s even available to do custom portraits. What parent doesn’t want a faux pumpkin bearing the likeness of their beloved child?
