All 6 Star Wars Episodes To Get A Droid-Centric Retelling, In Lego, Details Here

Over the next few years we’re going to get more Star Wars in more forms than ever before. Of course there are movies, shows, comics, books, and much more on the way. And before long, we’re going to be able to see all six of the already extant Episode movies told from the point of view of our favorite droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO. And oh yeah, it’ll all be in Lego form.
Today, Lego Group announced that they will produce five 22-minute episodes of Star Wars: The Droid Tales that will show the events running from The Phantom Menace all the way through Return of the Jedi from their perspective. Or at least as much of the action as they were around to see. They will air on Disney XD, which is the current home of the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Lego Group vice president of licensing and entertainment Jill Wilfert says:
Since we introduced our first LEGO Star Wars set in 1999, we have seen and heard from countless Star Wars fans who have used LEGO bricks to tell their own version of this timeless story, re-enacting favorite scenes and imagining new story lines. LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales gives us an opportunity to share highlights of the Star Wars story with a sense of humor and excitement that can only be conveyed through the LEGO brick, and will be a fun resource for families as they gear up for the next movie.
Droid Tales is framed as R2 and 3PO sitting around a fire on Endor after the Rebel Alliance destroys the second Death Star telling the gathered crowd of their exploits and adventures that led them to this moment. Apparently an “accidental kidnapping,” whatever the hell that means, leads to a whole new adventure, which leads to the saga being recounted in chronological order. I’m not sure how that last part works either, but I’m curious to find out.
Aside from that, there’s not much more to be known at the moment. We don’t know who will write or direct these episodes, or even when they’re going to air. Lego and Disney XD will likely reveal this information before too long, but for now, it’s something else for fans to look forward to. And as you can see, there are going to be shit tons of tie-in toys for you to blow your extra money on.
