Marvel has been pushing their latest endeavor, the space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, nonstop for months now, and with less than two weeks to go until the release date, they’re upping their game, which I didn’t entirely think was possible. Building on the momentum built on press screenings over the weekend—which resulted in glowing reviews—they’ve released a new extended clip and two new TV spots.

Clocking in at almost five-minutes, this starts out with a quick introduction to the key players in this cosmic drama, a mismatched gang of outlaws comprised of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel). It’s not that 17-minute preview some audiences got to see a while back, but it ain’t bad.

The action deals with their time in prison. They’re all after the same thing, mysterious orb that is likely one of the Infinity Gems—which Star-Lord compares to the Arc of the Covenant in a nice Raiders of the Lost Ark reference. They really bond and gel as a group in The Kyln, a notorious prison known as the “stomach of the prison system” because no matter how good you are going in, you come out like shit.

This does a nice job of introducing the characters and their motivations. Drax is out for vengeance for his murdered family. Gamora, the adopted daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), lent to Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), is striking out on her own. Rocket is the result of illegal genetic experiments, and Groot is his BFF and plant muscle for hire. Star-Lord, also known as Peter Jason Quill, was raised since childhood by the Ravagers, a group of thieves and smugglers led by Yondu (Michael Rooker). He’s also super protective of his Walkman.

This short TV spot, one of very, very many, highlights the action and sarcastic humor of the film, both elements that have garnered a fair amount of attention and praise. It isn’t anything too fresh, as you’ve seen much of this, but there are a few bits of new footage, and it looks just as fun as everything else.

While Ronan and whatever terrible plans and destruction he has up his sleeve, it’s going to be big and messy. But at the same time, the only people that can stop him, the Guardians of the Galaxy, are pretty bad and destructive themselves. As you can clearly see in this footage, they’re going to cause quite a ruckus themselves.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens everywhere August 1.
