New 3D Printer May Be One Step Closer To Star Trek Replicators

Every time that real-life technology does something remotely close to one of the innovations of science fiction, it is a welcome step towards the future we’ve all been waiting for our entire lives. The Imagine 3D Printer from Essential Dynamics is moving us yet another step closer to making replicators from Star Trek a reality of day-to-day life.

What exactly they’re doing in this video, I haven’t the foggiest clue, but you could do some intricate designs on cakes or whatever. That’s all well and good, but the really exciting thing is what else you can put in this thing. From the website: “If you can bring it to a soft form first (using a household blender), you can print with it. The sky is the limit.”
So basically anything you can stuff into one of these syringes you can print with. According to the sales manager at Essential Dynamics, the printer has been tested with a variety of meat products, including chicken, beef, fish, turkey, and pork. Mash it up in a blender, and you can squeeze the goop out into whatever shape you want your little heart desires.
If you’re willing and able to spend $1995 on this bad boy, which at 9 inches by 9 inches is the largest in the industry, you can start experimenting for yourself at home. What would you build given the chance? I’m thinking someone needs to create a duck made out of turkey, or a cow made out of chicken. Oh the possibilities are endless.
