The full trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness debuted online this morning, following the first nine minutes of the film that premiered with this weekend’s release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Still no concrete word on the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain, but these events are sure to spark much debate on the topic.

Embedded in the frame at the 1:05 mark is a glimpse of a website, AreYouThe1701.com. When you type this address into your browser, it takes you to a site that asks you for your email, location, and date of birth. After that it promises to “tell you when the search begins,” and gives you the options to follow 1701 on twitter and Facebook.

Star Treak Into Darkness doesn’t arrive in theaters until May 17, 2013, but this appears to be the kick off to the obligatory viral marketing campaign.

Right now that’s all there is. There are no Earth shattering revelations, bonus extra content, or even hints at what the “search” may entail, though you may have unknowingly signed away the rights to your firstborn. Abrams likes to play things close to the vest, but he’s also just fond of playing, so you can bet there will be some cool viral material coming down the pipe. After all, we still have a long time until the Enterprise and crew blast off, so there is ample time for games and schemes and shenanigans.
