With only two more days until the release of Tom Tykwer’s and the Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas, Warner Bros. is releasing a slew of featurettes and behind-the-scenes footage of the epic, genre-bending motion picture. And trust me, I’ve seen the film and you’ll want to know as much as you can before sitting down in a theater for this one.

The latest release is a 13-minute featurette that highlights the overall theme and tone of the film adaptation of author David Mitchell’s best-selling novel. The actors on board the movie also talk about the challenges of playing multiple roles in the film. Some characters obviously get more screen time than others, but it’s still quite an experience picking out faces in the crowd when trying to spot the actors in Cloud Atlas. Watch the epic featurette below:

Cloud Atlas works in all of its genres and effortlessly goes from a 19th Century Southern colony picture to a post-apocalyptic survivor film. Directors Andy & Lana Wachowski with German director Tom Tykwer have a keen eye to balance these elements so as not to overwhelm an audience. The structure of the film is also its theme, which may sound violently engulfing but the three directors have well-mannered hands behind the camera. The following is a 16-minute video of B-roll from Cloud Atlas. It mostly highlights scenes from the film while they’re being shot, but it’s still worth watching to understand the hard work put into the film:

Cloud Atlas is ambitious to say the least. And for all the grandeur of the six storylines and epic feeling, the film never feels unfocused. Although the film hits its themes on the nose at times, you feel like you’re in good hands.

Cloud Atlas hits theaters everywhere on October 26, 2012.
