12 Monkeys’ Cast Grows By Four As The Syfy Production Kicks Into Gear

In the year 2043, we will be able to tell you just how good or bad Syfy’s upcoming 12 Monkeys adaptation will be; but for now, we can only wait. The series’ first season officially went into production this week, and has thus filled out the rest of its time-hopping cast with four familiar faces from both TV and film. Sadly, none of them are “Brad Pitt in disguise.”
So let’s look at these actors and their parts one by one, shall we? First we have Rookie Blue‘s Lyriq Bent, who will play Dr. Henri, whom TV Line refers to as “a brilliant and cutting edge virologist.” I’m guessing that puts him in “present day” 2043, and we can only assume that he’s one of the good guys.
Stashwick (The Originals), meanwhile, is definitely an antagonist of sorts as Deacon, the wily leader of The West 7, a gang of scavengers with violent tendencies. The West 7 are responsible for burning down many of the government’s final quarantine zones after the worldwide viral outbreak that wiped out most of the Earth’s human population. Their philosophy is centered around a “survival of the fittest” mentality.
Hemlock Grove actor Demore Barnes will have his hands full as an American soldier named Whitley, one of the last in a dying military. His self-appointed mission is to protect the Temporal Facility where the Project Splinter time machine program is set up. I suppose I don’t have to tell anyone that he will inevitably fail in his duties.
Romina D’Ugo (Kings) has the lightest story of the four, though that doesn’t mean much as far as her potential importance goes. She’ll play Max, a survivor who only knows post-apocalyptic life, having not been alive before the planet went to shit. Those kinds of people have to have a nickname like “Plague Babies,” don’t they?
Syfy’s 12 Monkeys update stars Aaron Stanford as Cole, a prisoner sent back in time to identify and destroy the source of the virus, with Amanda Schull as the scientist who helps him in his efforts. (Presumably after being scared out of her mind for a while.) The series also stars Kirk Acevedo (Fringe), Noah Bean (Nikita), Tom Noonan (Hell on Wheels), and Emily Hampshire (Rookie Blue) as Jennifer Goines.

12 Monkeys is set to hit Syfy at some point in January 2015, assuming we haven’t all met our plague-ridden deaths by then.
