Gearing up for the new semester of college? If you’re living on campus, why not geek out your dorm room with some awesome sci fi accessories to give the place some personality. Whether you’re into Star Wars, video games, Marvel stuff or other geek culture, there are plenty of geeky dorm room items for you. Check out some of our favorites below.
1. Han Solo Mini Fridge
This fridge is a pretty good size one. You can fill it with 18 cans of soda or beer. Yup, you can have the coolest mini beer fridge on campus with this thing. And one really interesting feature is that it has both a cool and warm setting, so if you dob’t want it cold then you don’t have to have it that way.
It has some cool red LED lighting on the front, but if you don’t like the red lights the you can switch them off on the back of the unit.
The two inside shelves can be removed. And this fridge has a handle on the top so that you can easily transport it at the end of the semester.
2. Star Wars Lightsaber Motion Lava Lamps
Lava lamps have a long history of appearing in dorm rooms. But this year, you can level up your lava lamp game by getting a set of these awesome Star Wars lava lamps. They look like lightsabers and they are really cool.
Sure, they don’t give off a ton of light, so you won’t want to use these as your only source of light when writing that end of term paper. But, these are a great Star Wars themed decor piece that gives your dorm room that extra dash of awesome.
These lamps are about 18 inches tall and you can choose from Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. And these things are pretty cool – definitely better than one of the old school lava lamps!
3. Nintendo GameBoy LaundryBoy Hamper
If you grew up with an old school GameBoy handheld Nintendo gaming unit like me, then you are going to love this LaundryBoy clothes hamper. Heck, you don’t even need to have been a child of the 80’s like me to appreciate this kickass hamper.
This thing is a ThinkGeek exclusive item, which means that you can’t get it anywhere else. Unfortunately, it is not officially licensed from Nintendo, which is why it’s called a LaundryBoy. But I think we can all agree that it looks like the old school gaming system.
It is easy to assemble and easy to transport, so when it’s time to move out of the dorm at the end of the semester it will be a breeze. And the handles on the side make it easy to carry your laundry home to mom for the weekend.
4. Star Trek Paper Clips
Being in college means lots of homework and writing papers. And I don’t about your professors, but some of mine have insane rules like you have to print out your essays but you can’t staple them – instead you have to use paper clips. Kinda, weird, right? And if you’re like me, you probably don’t keep a stash of paper clips handy.
Well, now you can. And, you can do it in style with these cool Star Trek themed paper clips. You get a total of 40 clips in the canister – 20 of them are Delta Shield clips in gold and the other 20 are NCC-1701 clips in silver. And, since that isn’t geeky cool enough, the silver canister features the saucer section of the Enterprise on it.
These paper clips are officially licensed and are pretty much a must-have for any Star Trek fans out there. And if you’re like me, you can use some tacks to display some of these on the wall.
5. Doctor Who TARDIS Wastebin
For the Whovians out there, this cool TARDIS trash can is definitely a must-have for the dorm room. Heck, I don’t even live in a dorm and I’ve got one of these in my apartment because it’s so freaking cool!
Here’s what is really awesome about this Doctor Who trashcan – when you open and close it, the TARDIS lights up and makes sounds. How freaking cool is that? And, of course, it’s bigger on the inside.
Unfortunately, this waste bin is on the smallish side – it only sits about 16 inches tall. So, you can’t fit a lot of trash in it before you have to empty it. Still though, this thing is pretty cool.

These lights are officially licensed from Marvel and do not get hot to the touch when left on. And each light comes with the wall crack sticker so that you can make it look like the light is busting through your wall. Pretty cool, eh?
8. Game of Thrones Banners
The house banners that you can choose from are: Baratheon, Bolton, Greyjoy, Lannister, Martell, Stark, Targaryen, or Tyrell. But if house Stark is your favorite, know that it regularly sells out – so buy it if you see it in stock!
These banners are officially licensed and are quality made. Each one measures 30″ x 50″, has a reinforced top and three metal grommets.
9. Star Trek Enterprise Projection Alarm Clock
Were you silly enough to schedule yourself some early morning 8 a.m. classes this semester? Sounds like you’re going to need a good alarm clock. And what better way to meet the day at such an ungodly hour than with the help of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 each morning (unless you’re not a Star Trek fan!).
This alarm clock projects the current time onto the wall or ceiling, which is also a great way to annoy your roommate. And, the Nacelles light up when the alarm goes off.
This clock has the standard 5-minute snooze button on it. And the sounds that it makes include some notable sounds from the show – Red alert, photon torpedos, and Kirk calling from the Bridge. The clock runs on batteries, which are included.
10. Doctor Who TARDIS Mini Fridge
This little fridge has room enough for 18 cans of soda, just to give you an idea of its capacity. Of course, you have to take the shelf out to fit that many at once.
