Watch This Mashup Of Star Wars And The Pop Song Call Me Maybe
The countdown to pop culture irrelevance has been ticking for Carly Rae Jepsen since her hit song “Call Me Maybe” was released in the US earlier this year. It’s a super catchy, extremely infectious pop song which is why there are so many parodies of it on Youtube and throughout the Internet. It’s really at the point where the parodies have given the pop song its longevity. Does anyone remember Rebecca Black these days?
One of the best parodies or mash-ups of “Call Me Maybe” has been made by 22-year-old James Covenant, who took the pop song and gave it a Star Wars spin. By taking clips from every movie in the Star Wars Saga, Covenant cut together a video that manages to bring joy to people at the sight of Jar-Jar Binks saying “Kuh-RAY-zie!”
It’s pretty amazing to see how well “Call Me Maybe” goes with an auto-tuned version of the Star Wars movies. It almost does the impossible: puts The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones in a cheerful light. And seeing Natalie Portman as Padme Amidala smile and say “met you” would make Star Wars fan blush. It even splices in subtitled alien dialogue from Greedo and Jabba the Hutt and gives Chewbacca his mighty roar. Covenant had a good sense to make this video pleasing by only featuring a whiny Jake Lloyd and an annoying Jar-Jar Binks once. It ends on a funny note with General Ackbar’s iconic catchphrase, “It’s a Trap!”
