Underwater Millennium Falcon Formation Continues To Puzzle Divers

You may remember a year or so back when a deep-sea salvage company discovered something odd at the bottom of the Baltic sea. The team from OceanX jokingly described the object as a UFO, but once the story went viral, many commented on the fact that it kind of looked like the Millennium Falcon. Using side-scan sonar, the object was discovered to be 60 meters in diameter, with a “rigid tail 400 meters long.” Earlier this month divers descended the nearly 300 feet below the surface to photograph the anomaly, and despite a first-hand look and bringing up samples for analysis, they have returned with more questions than answers. You can watch a news report with footage and photos of the expedition below, unfortunately all in Swedish.

OceanX diver Stefan Hogeborn, despite a 20-year career spent exploring the undersea world, said he had “never seen anything like this” and that it was “the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver.” One particular line describing the object as resembling “a huge mushroom” is being misconstrued by some corners of the internet, but that description appears to just be metaphor, not an actual classification. In fact, they still don’t know what the hell it actually is. Here’s some official description from OceanX’s press release:

First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg-shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

Pictures taken during the dive were first published in the Swedish newspaper Expressen, and samples from the mysterious object were sledgehammered off and brought to the surface for examination. You can expect these puzzling reports to set off a new round of UFO speculation, and I’m sure the History Channel is already in pre-production on “Underwater Aliens: Fact Or When The Hell Did We Stop Actually Making Shows About History?”

All I can say is these people clearly haven’t watched the director’s cut of James Cameron’s The Abyss. You don’t go futzing around with the underwater aliens, man.

Sunken remains of a building, then? Atlantis?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaimeWulf Dale Allen Platt

Very likely remains of a sunken building, remember that the layout of the Oceans and such have not always been the same as they are right now…

    • Tactician

The “formation” is approximately 275 ft. below sea level, dating it at about 10,000 to 12,000 years old. The sea levels were close to 300 ft. higher at 10,000 years ago and in that near time range.

      • Jason

Ummm… no, sea levels were not 300 feet higher 10,000 years ago… quite the opposite. There are numerous underwater archaeological sites off the Western US alone that are only underwater due to the relatively recent rise in sea water. For reference purposes some of these sites have documented firepit’s (allowing carbon-14 dating). A quick search around coastal Clovis points should provide some feedback for you.

        • Tactician

I typed that to quickly, I meant lower not higher, lol.
here’s few quick references, First reference:
          http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs2-00/

Global sea level was about 125 meters below today’s sea level at the last glacial maximum about 20,000 years ago (Fairbanks, 1989). As the climate warmed, sea level rose because the melting North American, Eurasian, South American, Greenland, and Antarctic ice sheets returned their stored water to the world’s oceans. During the warmest intervals, called interglacial epochs, sea level is at its highest. Today we are living in the most recent interglacial, an interval that started about 10,000 years ago and is called the Holocene Epoch by geologists.

So the sea levels were at there lowest 20,000 years ago.

          Another reference:

          http://www.maine.gov/doc/nrimc/mgs/explore/marine/sites/may99.htm

Isostatic uplift of coastal Maine occurred as the great ice sheet melted. Upward motion of the land resulted in a relative fall of sea level along the Maine coast. Several studies have suggested that sea level fell as far as about 180 feet (55 m) below its present level between about 11,000 and 10,000 C-14 years ago (Barnhardt et al., 1995). Coincidentally, this time marks the beginning of the Holocene epoch of geologic time, the current interglacial period of earth history.

So at 10,000 years ago this study says 150-160 ft. below current sea levels.
The depth of 275-300 ft. is then between 20,000 years ago and 10,000 years ago.

          ANother reference:

Computer programs have indentified two specififc periods of rapid sea level rising, around 14,000 and then again at around 11,600 years ago.

          • http://www.facebook.com/ian.e.holdsworth Ian Emrys Holdsworth

While the point about isostatic rebound is valid, the primary cause of global sea level rise/fall is the heating/cooling of the worlds oceans, which causes the water to become less/more dense.

          • Tactician

Regardless of cause, which is important, evidence suggests effect of sea level rise occurring between 11,600 and 14,000 years ago. So if there is even a shred of evidence that this is an actual non-natural structure, it is a remarkable find. If that does in fact prove to be true, then this is may be a precursor civilization influencing the oldest recorded civilizations from Sumeria, Rama in India, and China. And after that is determined, much research needs to be done to determine if there is any sort of electromagnetic, or daresay, even wider energetic spectrum anomalies active.

          • cgavigan

What does getting hard core about rising and lowering of sea levels have anything to do with what it is that they think they’ve found? Is it that just talking science is making this supposed discovery seem more valid? Is B.S.ing side topics about geology and making conjectures make this seem more convincing to you? You know, I used to pretend too.

        • OldManRiverTam

Ummm..yah sea levels were higher then. It is in the archaeological and geographic record. Western US is a high tectonic zone with perpetual rises and falls. That region not being below sea level 10,000 years ago has squat to do with what the level of the sea level was. Sea levels rise and fall like your chest while breathing..

I love the subtitle of “…When The Hell Did We Actually Stop Making Shows About History?” Too true!

    • marshad

MTV, History, Discovery, National Geographic, … – dedicated channels don’t stay dedicated for long, do they? “Reality” shows and sensations seem to be selling best today :/

      • http://www.facebook.com/afishnamedlaura Laura Probst

What’s really sad is seeing how once respectable channels have slowly declined in quality over the years, ultimately becoming laughingstocks, at least to anyone with a functioning brain. TLC is the biggest offender I can name; it once offered reasonably intelligent programs, but now it’s home to such riveting shows as “Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo” (a show which should be a clear signal that “Idiocracy” has indeed become a reality).

        • http://www.facebook.com/earl.grosser Earl Grosser

I think that movie “Idiocracy” should now be required watching as a warning to what’s happening!

          • http://www.facebook.com/afishnamedlaura Laura Probst

Yes, but are we at a point where we’d understand that it is a warning, or have we passed the “Idiocracy” event horizon?

  • Fishees

The city of R’lyeh. Do not disturb Cthulu!

  • furryletsplayerXtreme

the fucking retards dont even know what a millemium falcon is! AHAHAHAHA! thats too rich!

  • REALITY

The object is nothing. Not a UFU, not a ship, not a transmitter, not a building. It is a fiction. Get a life!

    • Tactician

Yeah, “REALITY” and that closes the book, just like the rest of history. Blatant idiocracy controlled like a tide of the moon, and there’s more to that statement then whats on the surface. In your version of reality everything is a boring random happenstance of lab testable concrete natural pointless matter. Just continue to ignore anomalies to fit your prison of a belief system, mold the universe to your comfortable lil pigeonhole. Don’t question anything, or even everything to peel away at the layers of illusion. Don’t objectively study an anamoly without prejudice, without agenda to discern the “soul” of the matter. Thats cool, no problemo, keep sailin the seas of cheese bro, merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream. (smirk)

      • cgavigan

Its funny whenever people who believe in something with sooooo little evidence, get confronted by people with honest questions AND counter EVIDENCE and every single one of them falls back on the same response. The detractor is IGNORANT, A TOOL, INSANE, CLUELESS TO WHATS REALLY HAPPENING, DOESNT GET IT, NEVER QUESTIONS, IS PREJUDICED, LIVES IN FANTASY LAND, DELUSIONAL, and AN IDIOT . Its funny how they describe it so well because this is exactly how they behave in the face of scrutiny. They are describing themselves and not REALITY. That is why they know the character well enough to describe it so accurately. Instead of confronting the skepticism directly, they attack the messenger for being stupid or sidestep the message by claiming the question is stupid. Sarcastically defaming REALITY for a lack of objectivity while expressing a COMPLETE LACK OF OBJECTIVITY in their response. It is insecure denial in bullshit form.

No wonder you spent about 3 lines talking about the vid and about 50 line talking about the fucking tides and geologic history. You dont have shit to talk about the actuall video, just sidebars of the topic. All charlitans behave in the face of scrutiny as you do.

You have a psychological condition my friend. It is shared by many different people. People who want to believe sooo badly that reality isnt as cold, heartless and dull and more like the movies than it actually is. We are taking your dreams and fantasies away. In a world where you feel powerless in and have no real control, this belief gives you a degree of mental stability in your life where “you” get to define what is “real” based on what “you” want to believe in. You follow the same patterns of conclusion and rebuttal as: Bigfoot seekers, Alien Conspiracists, extreme left or right political activists, free energy activists, ghost hunters, the superstitious. You all decide with your feelings what you will “think” is right, an oxymoron, and defend with insecure resentment and sarcasm, what you “think”, with your feelings.

If you are right about something that “IS” or “IS NOT”, your claim should have the stamina to handle scrutiny rather than AVOIDING the scrutiny under the guise of “its a stupid question”, “the skeptic is an idiot”, or my personal favorite, “they dont know what Im talking about”. That is insecurity making up for a WEAK argument.

So go ahead, find a half a sentence to respond about how stupid I am and don’t live in reality, and ignore the rest. Ignore it all and take the low road position of “you dont know what the fuck im talking about”. Take the high road of ” what the fuck is he talking about?” Play it safe buddy and just character assasinate me. Im sure you can come up with some devastating quips while still ignoring the obvious and rational question of where is the reason and rationale for why these are NOT a bunch of ROCKS!!! If you say its already there or you already have, let me cut to the chase, YOU HAVE NOT. Nor will you in a reply, because deflecting that question and turning it into something else at all costs keeps the fantasy alive for you.
        YOUR QUOTE:
“Just continue to ignore anomalies to fit your prison of a belief system, mold the universe to your comfortable lil pigeonhole. Don’t question anything, or even everything to peel away at the layers of illusion.”
FUNNY, this is exactly how “you” command your position to think when your position is being confronted by outside reason and skepticism. REASON AND SKEPTICISM ARE YOUR ANOMALIES and the wont fit IN YOUR PRISON OF A BELIEF SYSTEM! And now you have a molded universal pigeonhole!!!!

You were writing about YOU…. and you didn’t even know it!!!!!!!!Oh GOD this is tooo much!!BWAAAAAHHHHHH HAAAAAAA freakin BWWWAAAAAHHHHAAA!!! See ya around AHAB!! BWWWWAAAAHHH BWWAHHHHH!!!!!
