Minority Report’s Future Is Now: Deploy The Vortex Cannon!
Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report is loaded with all kinds of cool gadgetry, most of it in the form of interactive visual displays which Tom Cruise’s character uses as a part of his daily life. But in Spielberg’s future mankind has also devised new weapons. In particular, at one point in the film Cruise takes out his enemies using a vortex cannon, device he simply twirls around, generating an intense blast of air which blows back his target. And now someone’s gone and made it.
It’s not exactly portable yet, but the following video shows the device in action. It generates a ring of air so powerful it can knock down small structures at long distance. My only complaints here are that they never tested it on anything more substantive and that, seriously, this guy’s aim is crap. In spite of his ineptitude, the Vortex Cannon is wickedly cool.
