Best-selling author Ernest Cline is giving away a DeLorean to one lucky reader who finds the hidden easter egg in Cline’s novel Ready Player One.

The book was released last year but is currently being released in paperback and to celebrate the event, Cline wants to give away a Back To The Future customized DeLorean. All you have to do is find the easter egg that lays in the pages. In the promotional video, Ernest Cline states that the easter eggs is not in the e-book version of Ready Player One, only in the hardcover and new paperback editions. He also continues that no one (to his knowledge) has found the easter egg since the book was originally released on August 16th 2011.

Ernest Cline also describes his very own DeLorean, Ecto-88, as a mix of the Back To The Future time machine, K.I.T. from Knight Rider and Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters with elements of Buckaroo Banzai and jet packs, in other words, the ultimate hybrid in geek imagination.

Once you find the easter egg, it will take you to a web address that will lead you to three increasingly difficult video game challenges, very much the spirit of the book Ready Player One. A novel about a dystopian future in which the Internet and multi-player video games are the one in the same, but when a mega wealthily industrialist dies, he leaves his fortune to the person who can find all three mysterious keys and complete the challenges ahead of them. Think Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory meets Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
