Legendary, pioneering science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke died today. He was 90. He died of, well, he was 90. The guy lived a full life.
His legacy is unquestionably secure. His best known work is probably “2001: A Space Odyssey”, which was turned into the classic, groundbreaking 1968 movie of the same name by Stanley Kubrick. Later there was a sequel, 2010, also based on a same named Arthur C. Clarke.
But there was more to his writing than being adapted by Kubrick, and Clarke’s century spanning career included dozens of award winning novels. He won six Hugos and three Nebula awards in his career, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
One of Clarke’s last acts, according to AFP, was to review the final manuscript for his last novel, “The Last Theorem”. Clarke may be gone, but he still has more work to contribute, and his influence on science fiction and American literature will last forever.
