nerosf Star Trek Deleted Scenes Fix Nero And Bring Back ShatnerGreat though Star Trek was, if anyone had any problem with the movie at all it was that a few things, Nero for instance, really could have used more fleshing out. Well it seems that Nero actually got the backstory he needed... but only in an earlier version of the script.

TNMC got their hands on the Trek script which they say contains a whole host of deleted scenes which never made it into the movie. Here's a quick breakdown of some of what they found, if you haven't seen the movie yet stop reading now to avoid spoilers.

  • Spock's birth
  • Klingon warbirds attack Nero's ship after it defeats the Kelvin
  • More young Kirk, including a scene with his older brother George
  • Scenes explaining how Nero spent his 25 years waiting for Spock. He's imprisoned on the Klingon prison planet Rura Penthe
  • A longer explanation of how Kirk beat the Kobyashi Maru
  • Nero's crew threatens to mutiny after they destroy Vulcan. They feel they've gotten their revenge and want to go home.
  • Spock loses control and gets violent with the Romulans
  • An alternate version of the end scene in which New Spock meets Classic Spock. Classic Spock whips out a locket to deliver a video message from Shatner's Kirk Classic.

It was a fun movie, but it has holes big enough to fly a [fill in the generic sci-fi reference] through. When Nero went back in time, why didn't he just go save his home world? I mean, it wouldn't be hard. The back story won't fix that major plot hole, so it's hard for me to get worried about the back story at all.
