We've lost Charlton Heston. The actor, the legend, the man died at home this Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimers. He made it to 84.
If you're any kind of science fiction lover, then you have to at the very least, respect Chuck Heston. Where would science fiction be today without Planet of the Apes or The Omega Man? I guess Hollywood would be forced to remake something else.
In a career filled with hundreds of iconic roles, few were more iconic than those Charlton gave to the science fiction genre. Maybe to you he's Ben-Hur or Moses in The Ten Commandments. But to me he'll always be George Taylor, an astronaut trapped on foreign soil in a world where man is the slave and animals have become the masters.
Few things in this world rocked the science fiction world more than this: The brain bending ending of the original Planet of the Apes movie, and Heston's half-mad, defeated cries of pain as he pronounced judgement on a forgotten world. Remember.
