Jonny Quest was different. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it groundbreaking, the show wasn’t exactly quality, but it was different from the usual cartoon stuff you’d see on Saturday mornings. In premise, it was a lot like a knockoff of the early Tom Swift books, a kid with a scientist father investigating strange occurrences. Like all early Hanna Barbara prodcuts, it was pretty cheesy, but since it’s endured for decades in several different incarnations, maybe there was a good idea in there somewhere. Or maybe Jonny just had a cute dog.
Hollywood will try to find that good idea when it turns Jonny Quest into a feature film. Moviehole reports that Warner Bros is working on churning out a Quest movie, with Zac Efron as Jonny and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as loyal heavy Race Bannon.
