Avatar is headed for a re-release in theaters because, even though it’s the highest grossing movie of all time, apparently there’s still more money to be made in showing it. When it’s re-released, it’ll be an extended version with new material which didn’t make it into the original theatrical version. Think of it kind of like those awesome Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings… only with more sex.
That’s right, I said sex. Avatar star Sam Worthington recently talked to MTV about what’s in store for the re-release and he’s promising, among other things, hot alien on alien action. Talking about what they’re adding he had this to say:
There are several different hunts that the characters go on, there’s a sex scene that everyone keeps talking about that is going to be unique. There’s a lot of other stuff to do with the Na’vi. And there is also a lot of other live action stuff that got taken out as well because of time constraints and at the time not knowing if the movie was going to be successful or not.
The sex scene in question must be the one we see the start of between Neytiri and Jake in the original movie. You know, the part where they stick their braids together. It was kind of awkward in the original film, I’m kind of afraid it’ll only get even more awkward if they take it further. I guess we’ll find out.
Look for this 8-minute longer version of Avatar back in theaters on August 27th.
