star warsWhile a few people are still on board with the Clone Wars cartoons, Star Wars has for the most part, lost all the momentum it built up with the prequels. The old franchise ain't what it once was, and it'll take a lot to get casual fans interested again. A good way to start, might be for George Lucas to finally deliver on at least one of his better promises: Give us live action Star Wars on television.

Lucas has been teasing a live action Star Wars TV series for years now, and every time it's talked about, it's talked about as if it's right around the corner. But it never is. So far it's been all talk. That may be about to change.

Celebrity Cafe says the show may finally be ready for viewers in 2011. As evidence, they cite several well gathered sources.

First there's this announcement from author Karen Travies, who was working on a Boba Fett novel, made back in December:

Yes, the Boba Fett novel was canceled by the publisher because of potential canon clashes with the upcoming TV series, as you have already heard from other sources. No, I really don't have a clue what those clashes might be. Sorry.

Sounds promising right? But more recently there's this, an interview with Total Film magazine in which Lucas has started talking the concept up again. He says:

It's [a] lot more talky. It's more of what I would call a soap opera with a bunch of personal dramas in it. It's not really based on action-adventure films from the '30s - it's actually more based on film noir movies from the '40s!"

Maybe this thing is finally happening? I need Jedi programming on weekly after Chuck. Of course the last time live action Star Wars appeared on network television it was called Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. This can't help but be better.

Here's a reminder of Star Wars' last network television adventure:

  • Hmmm. I'm wondering if Lucas will ever do anything outside of the Star Wars world. I know he's "producing." But come on, come up with something new. As an artist how can he be satisfied just milking one franchise for the rest of his life.

Star Wars Noir... what a joke!
