This past weekend we all got pretty excited over this. A never before seen deleted scene from Star Wars which George Lucas unveiled at Celebration and promises will be one of many pieces of polished up archival footage he’s including on his upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray box set.
The video was actually leaked online for awhile and though it’s gone now, if you caught it, you saw what appeared to be Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, constructing his first lightsaber. Hamill was actually on stage with Lucas when they announced the Blu-ray set and seemed to let everyone thing it was a real scene he filmed. He even related some amusing anecdote about his costume. Unfortunately, like everything George Lucas does, it’s probably all just a big lie.
The thing is, the whole scene probably isn’t real. It’s not a deleted scene, we know that, because back in 2009 Mark Hamill told everyone that the scene in question was never filmed. In fact, here’s the interview: read this entry »
Celebration V is happening today and George Lucas used the gathering of Star Wars fans to announce the impending release of Star Wars on Blu-ray. All six movies will be released in high-def, all at once, in fall of 2011.
But more importantly the new Blu-ray box set will contain never before seen, lost footage from the original Star Wars trilogy. During the event Lucas showed off one of the moments they’ll include, a scene in which Luke Skywalker constructs his own lightsaber before going off to save Han Solo at Jabba’s palace.
If you’re quick, you won’t have to wait for the DVD to see it. The entire scene has leaked online, and it’s every bit as cool as you’d expect. Here it is, watch it while it lasts:
UPDATE! It seems the entire thing may be a fraud. Details here.
It feels like Family Guy and Robot Chicken have pretty well flogged this parodying Star Wars thing to death. Still they’ve gone this far, I guess it makes sense to finish the trilogy. I’m watching and I’ll probably pick up a copy of the third installment in Family Guy’s skewering when it hits DVD and Blu-Ray December 21st.
They’re calling it Family Guy: It’s a Trap. Apparently they’re big Admiral Ackbar fans. Yep they’re taking on Return of the Jedi this time which should mean plenty of Ewok jokes and the inexplicable hotness of Lois Griffin in Princess Leia’s gold bikini. That bikini, by the way, is definitely a trap.
We have first look at the cover art for Family Guy: It’s a Trap along with complete details on the release from Fox Home Ent. Check it out: read this entry »

It’s hard to believe it’s taken them this long to get it done, but at long last the entire Back to the Future trilogy is coming to Blu-ray, where it belongs. It arrives just in time to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the greatest time travel movie of all time. Expect Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Edition on shelves in both Blu-ray and DVD on October 26, 2010.
We have all the details for you after the jump. All three movies come loaded with bonus features and most of all, since it’s Blu-ray, they’ll look brilliant whether you’re watching them on your high-def television or in a DeLorean flying through a parking lot at 88 mph. read this entry »
I don’t have a good excuse for watching Stargate Universe. It’s not a good show, in fact it’s probably a terrible show, but it’s something I do. Maybe it’s something you’d like to do to. The show has something. Maybe it’s the characters who all seem, whether by accident or design, just slightly off kilter. I’m still not sure whether half these people are heroes or villains. Is that because it’s so poorly written or because the show’s writers are just that brilliant? I really don’t know.
The second half of the show’s first season is headed for Blu-Ray, for those of you wise enough to skip it the first time, but not smart enough to avoid it in high-definition. Maybe you’ll find something inexplicably watchable about it too. After the jump we have cover art for Stargate Universe on Blu-Ray along with complete release specs for the Blu-Ray and DVD versions of Stargate Universe 1.5. Take a look and plan accordingly. read this entry »
Zombieland hits Blu-Ray and DVD next week on February 2nd and just in case you need another reason to be in line, there’s this. The DVD contains deleted, never before seen moments from the film, along with featurettes, storyboards, and commentary explaining how they made it. But it’s the deleted scenes you won’t want to miss.
Below we have one of those deleted scenes, in which Columbus introduces a new rule. It’s Rule #2: Ziploc Bags.
But wait, there’s more! Here’s a second deleted scene in which Tallahassee attempts sabotage. The joke is on them: read this entry »
JJ Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek debuts on DVD in just a week, and with it available to own in your home comes a bunch of mostly ridiculous tie-ins. This one is perhaps the most ridiculous, but goddammit I’m probably gonna buy them. It’s ridiculously geeky cool.
Airwalk will be selling special edition Star Trek sneakers. Alright they look a lot like normal Airwalks except they’re in sweet Star Trek colors. Most importantly they have the Federation logo on the tongue, which should come in handy if you’re ever beamed off a Klingon warship by a Starfleet patrol vessel and need to prove that you’re actually a Federation agent in disguise.
STPL x Airwalk™ Branded Sneakers are available now online and at select Payless ShoeSource stores .
You may not know who Diora Baird now, but you might have if her scene as a green-skinned Orion slave girl hadn’t been cut out of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. She’s not the one who Kirk bangs in Uhura’s quarters, she’s a different, spunky chick who Kirk encounters in the hallway and confuses for his most recent conquest because, well I guess Kirk’s a racist and all green skinned people look alike to him.
Diora’s scene may not have made it into the movie but now it’s online and, it’s definitely worth your time. She’s spunky and cute and Kirk’s insincerity is exactly what you’d expect. Take a look after the jump: read this entry »
Before the release of Terminator Salvation director McG spent a lot of time spouting ridiculous nonsense to promote his film. Some of it we bought into, some of it we didn’t. In the bought it category falls his claim that Warner Bros. was forcing him to delete this incredible topless scene with the film’s female lead Moon Bloodgood. Well now that deleted scene is available on the internet and… yeah… it’s pretty awful.
The scene happens in the rain while Bloodgood is creepily watched by a pervs. You can’t really see much and what you can see is, surprisingly, not that impressive. Sorry Moon, I just expected better. That must be a hellacious push-up bra you have on. The thing to remember here though is that, as usual, McG was exaggerating to make himself look edgier and more fan friendly than he actually is. Cutting this scene was a good decision. Watch it after the jump and see if you agree. read this entry »
