Will Guillermo Del Toro And Oculus Rift Immerse You In Pacific Rim 2?

Pacific RimOculus Rift sounds just like something that comes straight out of science fiction. Head-mounted virtual reality devices have played huge roles in genre movies since the very concept of virtual reality became an idea the public was aware of. Now it’s looking more and more like this particular piece of high-tech wizardry could play a big part in the future of a sequel we’re looking forward to, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2.

There may not be another Pacific Rim movie coming out until 2017, but this property is tailor-made for the crowd and San Diego Comic-Con, so Legendary has gone ahead and booked some space on the crowded floor just for the hell of it. We’re not there, but our bigger, fancier sibling Cinema Blend is all over this epic gathering and has a report on these two things are coming together.

Star Wars Infographics And Videos Crack The Saga Wide Open

In just a few months, Star Wars: Episode VII will go into production at Pinewood Studios in London, with director J.J. Abrams at the helm. This will be the first movie in a new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, and offers a perfect time to take a look back at where it all started. A number of infographics and videos have emerged that showcase everything from lightsabers to trivia you may or may not have known about your favorite galaxy far, far away.

lightsaber infographicFirst up, an infographic that breaks downhow a lightsaber works. George Lucas was inspired by many different sources to make Star Wars a reality. Along with Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress, he found insight in pulpy science fiction like Flash Gordon. One of the elements Lucas lifted was the idea of a swashbuckling space adventure. You can’t have a swashbuckling melee without a sword, and Lucas came up with the saga’s signature weapon, the lightsaber.

Star Wars: Episode VII Writing Duties Shift To Lawrence Kasdan And J.J. Abrams

fb share tweet share

star-wars-episode-7Since its first announcement in 2012, Star Wars: Episode VII has been one of the most-anticipated movies of the decade. Official announcements about the next Star Wars have been few and far between, but now we’ve learned that screenwriter Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) has left the project.

According to StarWars.com, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made the announcement that Arndt will no longer be writing the screenplay for Episode VII. Taking up his duties are Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan and director J.J. Abrams. Of course, Kasdan co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, so he has a clear understanding of the world and its characters. Abrams co-wrote the script for Mission: Impossible III and the screenplay for the sci-fi throwback Super 8. Kennedy says:

I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.

Cowboys & Aliens Comes To Blu-ray This December, Details And Cover Art

fb share tweet share

Cowboys & Aliens is a much better movie than it got credit for from critics. As a result, more than a few of you missed it in theaters. This December you’ll get a chance to rectify that error in judgement, when Cowboys & Aliens arrives on Blu-ray.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has just informed us that they’ll drop the film on Blu-ray and DVD (but really, a movie this special effects laden should only be viewed on Blu-ray) December 6th. Even though the movie was kind of a flop at the box office, they’re giving it a proper Blu-ray treatment by releasing a disc loaded with extra features.

Tomorrow is the day we’ve all been waiting for. I’m sure you’ve all had National Ghostbusters Day marked on your calendar for months, even though, you know, it was only announced last week. But still, National Ghostbusters Day. To mark the occasion, we have two vintage features for your enjoyment, one from the 1984 original Ghostbusters, and another from the 1989 sequel Ghostbusters 2.

This first behind the scenes feature gives you a peek beyond the curtain at the production of the classic comedy, which, if you’ve done the math, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. There are interviews with all of the key players, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis (RIP), director Ivan Reitman, and Sigourney Weaver.
