gfr Giant Freakin Update Fanboys, Children of Men, Transformers, Halo, And MoreI could be finishing up my review of Timothy Zahn's latest Star Wars novel, but instead I'm doing this: Giving you loyal GFR stompers a quick recap of all the sci-fi related stories we missed in the last week or so, probably because I was too busy obsessing over the impending return of Battlestar Galactica. Can you blame me? Ron Moore's show is awesome.

Rapid fire laser blasts:

- Frank Darabont's attempt to turn Fahrenheit 451 into a movie took a hit this week. Tom Hanks, who had been attached to the project, ditched it. From his comments, Darabont seems to think this has all but killed the project.

- Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick is turning Children of Men into a TV series. It's already been an amazing movie done by Alfonso Cuaron, and now Eick is taking another shot adapting it. It's hard to imagine he'll be able to top Cuaron's film, but I'm dying to see what he comes up with.

- Transformers 2 may be stockpiling cars to begin shooting. This site scored pics of trucks loaded with Mustang police cars painted up with Decepticon logos.

superman-095jit4.jpgHold on, don't freak out out over that story title. We're not sure if it's true. But that's the rumor from our sister-wives over at Cinema Blend. They've got a scooper who claims to have plied Justice League movie cast member Adam Brody with beer in a Vancouver bar, and gotten him to spill the beans on what's up with the movie.

Among the things he told her:

- Hayden Christensen is playing Superman
- The title of the film is Justice League is Mortal
- Adam Brody is The Flash
- Armie Hammer is Batman
- They're shooting in British Columbia

For the full story, click over to our boys at CB.

UPDATE! Looks like this one has already been debunked. Hayden's people told our people that he won't be in JLA. What a relief. Full story also at CB.

Last week some great photos taken from the set of JJ Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie surfaced online at AICN, and vanished about five minute later after Paramount Pictures hit them with a cease and desist notice. But you can't fight the internet, and they've since been picked up and plastered just about everywhere else. Paramount is still sending cease and desists, but their lawyers can't keep up with the speed at which the world wide web happens.

So for those of you who missed them, take a minute and click over to TrekWeb, where they have the whole bunch. Included is our first look ever at the new Star Trek uniforms being used, and a lot of detailed interior and exterior shuttle craft photos.

It appears as if Abrams has gone out of his way to incorporate the old designs of the original series, but update them into a more modern look. I like them. Now if only he'd also go out of his way to actually let some of his fans have a look at what he's up to, instead of letting Paramount send it's junkyard dogs after anyone who gets excited about his movie. I mean that one photo we got three months ago was nice and all, but it's long past time to throw this bunch of starving Trekkies another bone.

bsg09jiofds.jpgNo, the title of this story is not a joke. If you're like me, in addition to being blown away by the show as a whole, you're totally in love with the BSG score, which is the stuff of a great composer named Bear McCreary. Apparently I'm not the only one who went scrambling on to the internet frantically searching for a place to download more of his music after last season's mind blowng, music-powered finale. In fact, he's so in demand his Battlestar Galactica music will be played live, and in concert.

It's happening April 15th at the Roxy theater, and tickets are officially on sale and selling out RIGHT NOW. If you want in, you'd better get movie. Details, via their press release:

bsg98iojkwrt.jpgIt's not just the best science fiction on television, it's the best show on television. The Sci Fi channel's masterful, Peabody Award winning series Battlestar Galactica returns for its fourth and final season this coming Friday, April 4th. Start planning now to have your ass in a seat.

To get fans prepared for raptor flying action, the Sci Fi channel has been running a half-hour special called Battlestar Galactica: The Phenomenon. In it, really cool people like Joss Whedon talk about how adicted they are to show, and tell you that if you aren't watching it you must be some sort of fracking moron. While you are.

It's worth watching to get your BSG blood boiling again. The entire special is now online. Watch it after the jump:

doctorwho3049f.jpgThe recently resurrected Doctor Who is returning to television soon... over in the United Kingdom. Here in America we're always on something of a Doctor Who lag. But our British brothers already have a new trailer for the Doctor's upcoming season, and it's playing only in UK movie theaters.

That's great for them, unfortunately for us it means that the only version of the trailer available to watch is a really crummy, grainy, YouTube thing shot on someone's cell phone. Still, it's better than nothing, especially if you're a fan hungering for more. Here's the trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who:

terminator123094kl.jpgThere has never been much doubt that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will get a second season. After all it was the highest rated mid-season replacement of the year. But Fox has yet to announce officially that the show will continue to live at the network. Luckily, they’ve all but announced it unofficially.

TV Guide reports that Fox has given the show’s producers permission to start staffing up for the series’ new season. They’re already working on hiring directors, and while that’s not a sure thing, it certainly points to good things for Sarah Connor and her Chronicles.

Come on Fox, just announce you’re bringing it back already! We all know it’s going to happen. Give us more TV Terminator!

jericho4095u.jpgLast night the final episode of Jericho aired. Rabid fan support aired it a second season, but it wasn't enough to convince CBS that it merited a third. That doesn't mean it's dead though. It's already being shopped to other smaller networks, and the show's producers are ready to go just about anywhere with it, whether it be on the internet... or even into theaters as a movie.

In an interview with SciFi Wire, here's what Jericho exec producer Carol Barbee had to say:

"There's definitely an Internet series to be had, and we always talked about a graphic novel, and ... a movie," Barbee said. "I mean, there are lots of things that I could easily see as a way to continue the story."

gort10293.jpgLet's get this out of the way right off the bat: remaking The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves is a terrible idea. It'd be like remaking Hitchock with Vince Vaughn... oh wait I think they've already done that. Well then you know exactly how bad this is.

It's one thing to remake it, but it's quite another to let Al Gore or his equivalent muck around with the remake script. While the original movie was about an alien coming to Earth to warn us to cut it out with the whole nuclear war thing, Keanu Reeves says the new one is about an alien coming to Earth to make us all vegans and force us to hug trees. Or something like that. Here's what Keanu told MTV:

The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.

jericho23049.jpgLast year Jericho was saved from the scrap heap by a fan campaign, unfortunately those same fans who saved it apparently forgot to watch it once it was back on the air... either that or they simply weren't able to convince enough of their friends to tune in with them. In an announcement released this week, CBS lowered the axe on the show... for good this time. Here's what they have to say about Jericho's demise:

Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts.
